Petition Action

Licence fee payers to be able to choose preferred public service broadcaster

Petition Details

The BBC has in recent years declined in impartiality, and in particular since the 2016 referendum campaign.

Additional Information

Many see its attempts at 'balance' as less than impartial, as they allowed opponents of the EU to naysay arguments without presenting counter facts. While many people support public service broadcasting as an alternative to narrow private interests, some element of competition between public broadcasters could restore the reputation of institutions like the BBC and force them to perform their duty of impartiality

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because we aren't sure what action you would like the UK Government or Parliament to take.

You could start a new petition calling on the UK Government to establish a new public sector broadcaster funded from the licence fee if that's something you would like to see happen.
