Petition Action

Forcing school children to learn a language at gcse shouldn’t be aloud.

Petition Details

Many children will fail as languages weren’t taught in as much detail in primary school. This is a subject that kids and their parents should be aloud to decide on there own.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We understand that you are concerned about children having to take foreign language GCSEs but we aren't sure what action you would like the UK Government or Parliament to take.

The Government doesn't require children to take a foreign language GCSE. That's up to schools. However, the Government does required a foreign language GCSE as part of the English Baccalaureate. Some universities also require them for entry.

You could start a new petition calling for the Government to no longer require a foreign language as part of the English Baccalaureate if that's something you would like to see happen.
