Petition Action

New laws that allows Freehold properties to be ‘free from hold’.

Petition Details

I brought a home with the support of the government Help To Buy Scheme which was on a new housing estate. You have no rights to challenge unsatisfactory services due to the lack of laws in place to protect 'home owners' in my position because the land is privately owned.

Additional Information

Freehold properties on new housing estates are not ‘Freehold’ in the truest sense of the definition. We have no power to challenge service charges because our Deeds prevent us in doing so. The govements pledge was to support hard working citizens to become home owners. The property developers have full control over your homes and there are no laws in place that allow you have ownership of your property, Please sign the petition so changes are made.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you're concerned about service charges in relation to freehold properties, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do. For example, you could start a petition asking the Government to give owners of freehold properties the right to challenge service charges if that's what you want to happen.
