Teach children how to administer epipens and the dangers of allergies in school
There is a rising number of cases of anaphylactic shock resulting in fatalities in the UK, especially in children.
The administration of adrenaline via an epipen in the initial stages of anaphylaxis can mean the difference between life and death.
Anaphylactic shock is the result of a severe allergic reaction, and leads to the constriction of the airways and difficulty breathing.
Those with allergies know what to do when in anaphylactic shock, however most people do not know how to respond, which includes ringing 999 after the initial epipen administration.
Children of secondary school age need to be taught in PSHCE lessons about what to do if someone they know is experiencing anaphylactic shock & allergy awareness must increase.
