Petition Action

Create legislation that allows the public to hold a vote of No Confidence

Petition Details

The United Kingdom is supposedly a democracy. However, in cases of a minority government the public do not hold the power to remove a government from office when they no longer have confidence in their ability to rule.

Additional Information

In the last election the ruling party lost their majority which can interpreted as the public no longer having confidence in them.
By allowing the public to remove a failing government from office and bypassing the fixed term parliament act, the country takes a step closer to true democracy.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the UK Government or Parliament to do. In particular, we're not sure how you'd like public votes of no confidence to be triggered or what the potential outcomes would be.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you'd like the UK Government or Parliament to do.
