Make slander and defamation of a deceased person a criminal offence.
This is a petition to create a law that would make it illegal for anyone/any organisation to falsely, directly label any deceased individual as a criminal having commited any criminal act while alive, until such time as they are posthumously proven guilty in a court of law.
Especially in any form of media (including social). This should be considered posthumous defamation and/slander.
While the deceased fails to be affected by this practice, the privacy, reputation, health, and income of any estate, family, business associates or friends associated with the deceased is unjustly affected.
This is also the case of a person of public interest, where there is potential to cause distress, mental health issues and physical harm.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.
You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.
