Petition Action

Add Cultural Awareness/Knowledge to all Primary School Curriculums from Year 1.

Petition Details

I believe that we do not address the elephant in the room (skin colour) with our adolescents. We leave our children open to ignorant & uneducated views that sections of society still hold.
I have experienced negative behaviours born from a lack of education & I don't believe it needs to continue.

Additional Information

Children need to be taught that MELANIN is the pigment that gives your skin, eyes & hair it's colour, but internal organs are similar in most humans.
This will give them enough knowledge to challenge alternative views. These views may indirectly caused them to believe that skin colour has any bearing on intelligence, physical ability, social standing or privilege to name a few.
They also need to be taught that environment and culture are the two factors which cause people to appear different

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you'd like changes to the national curriculum, but we're not sure exactly what changes you'd like. The new RSE curriculum, will already include teaching students "the legal rights and responsibilities regarding equality (particularly with reference to the protected characteristics as defined in the Equality Act 2010) and that everyone is unique and equal".

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what changes you'd like the Government or Parliament to make to the curriculum.
