Petition Action

Sack Jeremy Clarkson

Additional Information

DCMS, who supply funding for the BBC through the licence fee, should recommend that Jeremy Clarkson be sacked for misconduct after his inflammatory and offensive comments on BBC's the One Show. Any pension that Mr Clarkson has built up should be removed.

They should also consider whether or not 'humorously' encouraging the execution of innocent people on national TV, to an audience of millions, is more or less serious than encouraging rioting on facebook, to an audience of hundreds (an 'offence' which recently resulted in a 2 year jail term). If so the case should be referred to the Crown Prosecution Service.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

This is a matter for the BBC.

It is a long-standing principle that the Government does not interfere in programme matters. It is important to maintain the principle of freedom of expression which political interference could undermine.
