MPs should lead by example in pension reform
MPs have approved plans to have their pension schemes reviewed by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA). However the IPSA are not expected to submit their final report in respect of the MP’s pension scheme until late 2012 and it is uncertain when any changes would be implemented.
The Government is imposing changes to other public sector workers, and from April 2012 other public sector workers will face increases in their pension contributions.
MPs should lead by example and implement changes to their own pension scheme before imposing changes on other public sector workers.
