Any MP who defects or resigns from their party should face a by-election
At present, when an MP resigns from their party, or switches parties during a Parliament, a by-election is only called if the MP chooses to resign their seat. Giving constituents voters the right to have a say on an MP's defection through a by-election is vital to improve public trust in politics.
