Petition Action

The Government utilize article 24 of GATT to mitigate damage and leave the EU.

Petition Details

The people voted on 23 June 2016 to leave the EU. Having served notice under article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty to enter good faith negotiations as provided thereto, the Government failed to honour the decision to leave by the 29 March 2019 due date citing inability to do so without a deal.

Additional Information

The EU has not negotiated in good faith. Preliminary negotiations on the negotiated withdrawal agreement has failed to win acceptance in the UK because of the insertion of the Irish backstop. The EU is adamant that it would not revisit it. With the article 50 stalled, the UK should open negotiations under the auspicious of the WTO to mitigate the damage from leaving without a deal under its article 24 but otherwise leave by 29 March or as soon as appropriate.
