MPs should support Theresa May's Brexit deal as the best available option.
This deal meets the key requirements for a realistic Brexit, as a first step towards European trade talks. It allows:
- Trade deals elsewhere in the world,
- Restricts free movement of people (important to Brexit voters)
- Respects the referendum result,
- No hard border in Ireland.
This deal meets the key requirements for a realistic Brexit, as a first step towards trade talks to manage our future relationship with our European neighbours. While it might have been preferable not to hold a referendum, we cannot turn the clock back. Attempts to cancel Brexit will result in massive disillusionment and damage.
Options at present include -
- A no-deal BREXIT which would be destructive and economically harmful
- A long delay to BREXIT which would be pointless
- The deal!
