Party of the sitting MP to put forward two candidates at each general election
Presently at a general election each party puts forward one candidate for election as an MP. Typically this will be the current sitting MP running again and a candidate from the other parties to challenge them. If constituents are not happy with how there MP has performed but still wish to vote for
the sitting party, they are stuck with the same MP again. Therefore, at an election the sitting party in a constituency must put forward two candidates for election, to give people the option to still vote for the same party but for a different MP if they are unhappy with how the current MP has performed. When votes are counted, the cumulative votes for both candidates will be used to determine which party wins the seat, then the individual votes will determine who the MP will be.
