Petition Details

To avoid the recent debacle over Brexit, I call on the government to require a two thirds majority for any future referenda.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because we aren't sure what the two thirds majority would apply to. For example, we aren't sure whether it would apply to a majority in Parliament to call a referendum or the outcome of a referendum; and we're not sure whether you would want it to apply to all possible outcomes of a referendum and - if so - what would happen if not outcome received the required majority.

You could start a new petition setting out clearly what you would like to happen.
