Petition Action

Stop describing Brexit as "the biggest democratic exercise in history"

Petition Details

Government repeats this endlessly despite it not being true. The 1992 general election had a higher absolute turnout and numerous elections have had higher percentage turnouts. This is a matter of record. The government has a duty not to mislead the electorate.

Additional Information

This piece of misleading propaganda has been used throughout the Brexit process to very damaging effect. It has been deployed to make the EU referendum appear to be a uniquely significant democratic event and hence unassailable.
