Petition Action

Make housing associations accountable with strong penalties for failures.

Petition Details

Since the Audit Commission was replaced by the Regulator of Social Housing, housing associations have become less accountable. As a consequence there have been abuses of their powers with a failure to maintain their properties adequately. Tenants are often treated very poorly

Additional Information

Channel 4 dispatches programme on Sanctuary Housing was representative of what is going on in the sector. Without proper accountability social housing landlords will continue to fail their tenants.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do to make housing associations more accountable.

You can find out more about the powers of the Regulator of Social Housing here:

www.gov.uk/government/organisations/regulator-of-social-housing

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
