Petition Action

Protect the rights of EU citizens in the UK after Brexit.

Petition Details

This government has given mixed signals on its commitment to protect the current rights of the three million EU citizens resident in the UK in the event of a no-deal Brexit. We want the rights of our EU citizen friends, family, partners, neighbours, and colleagues protected unequivocally.

Additional Information

EU citizens from outside the UK have made many important contributions to this country over the past several decades and have integrated to life here. They are our friends, family, partners, neighbours, and colleagues. They deserve fair treatment under the law and not to be treated like pawns in Brexit negotiations. We ask Parliament to protect their current rights and allow them to continue living in and contributing to the UK without fear for their future here.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because we aren't sure exactly what you would like the UK Government or Parliament to do to protect EU citizens rights in the UK after Brexit.

If you would like the UK Government to give all EU citizens in the UK automatic indefinite right to remain, without charge, you might like to sign this petition:

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/236200

If you would like the Government to negotiate for the current freedom of movement rights to remain in place, you could start a new petition about that.
