To stop Boris Johnson becoming Prime Minister
Boris Johnson resigned from the cabinet as he could not support the Withdrawal Agreement. Now that he sees an opportunity to become leader of the Conservative Party he has changed his mind and now supports the Agreement
All evidence as to Boris Johnson’s previous statements are widely available and recorded in his numerous articles published in the Daily Telegraph.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The Prime Minister of the UK is not chosen by the UK Government or Parliament.
After a general election, the Queen decides who to invite to form a Government. In practice, this is usually the leader of the political party that wins the most seats in a general election.
