Declare climate change a national emergency.
In 2018 IPCC scientists concluded that we only have 12 years to keep the global warming average below 2°C, stopping the most devastating impacts of climate change. If this benchmark is exceeded then we should expect freshwater and food shortages, with the prices of these necessities skyrocketing...
Long periods of no rainfall will cause droughts, followed by flood-inducing heavy rains. Billions of people will be displaced globally, causing the largest refugee crisis in history. Despite this, the government has taken almost no action to address the impending crisis. Therefore, this petition demands that the government makes the goal of a carbon neutral UK by 2030 its top priority and begins to take all action needed to achieve this goal.
