This petition is for a PR voting system in all government elections.
Recent political indecision and conflicts between the executive and parliament, within political parties, and among MPs on both sides of the House have led us to believe that the First Past The Post (FPTP) voting system at national and local government levels in Britain is no longer fit for purpose.
The geographical divisiveness which is inherent in FPTP systems was referred to in the Report of the Independent Commission on the Voting System (October 1998).
All the evidence suggests that greater consensus and compromise is achieved under Proportional Representation (PR) systems.
The information contained herein can be found in the House of Commons Library BRIEFING PAPER Number 04458, dated 26 October 2017, Voting systems in the UK By Neil Johnston.
