Check/enact all public petitions within 1 day of petitions receiving 10000 votes
At present, all petitions to parliament from members of the public need to receive 10000 signatures, and then wait over 4 weeks before possible listing in the house. This petitions seeks to force petitions to be discussed in parliament 1 day to 1 week after receiving 10000 signatures.
The Cooper/Letwin Bill had set a precedent that all articles going through the house should be set/debated and voted on within 1-7 days of presentation. Petitions should be no different. If back-benchers are allow to hijack parliamentary proceedings, then the public petitions should be given the same weight.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We can't accept your petition because we aren't sure what action you would like the UK Government or Parliament to take.
Petitions that receive more than 10,000 signatures receive a response from the Government.
Petitions that receive more than 100,000 signatures are considered by the Petitions Committee for debate. When the Petitions Committee schedules a petition for debate it will do so as soon as possible, however it can only schedule debates on Monday afternoons.
You could start a new petition calling for the Petitions Committee to have more time to schedule debates, so they can take place sooner if that's something you would like to see happen.
