Petition Action

Make the MMR vaccine a legal requirement for students living at University Halls

Petition Details

NHS figures show that the amount of children that have received both doses of the Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccine has dropped to a low of 87.2%
The result of this is causing outbreaks of measles and mumps throughout the UK which are potentially life threatening

Additional Information

Universities up and down the country are having outbreaks of mumps to which the consequences can be potentially devastating. Even those who are vaccinated are still getting the illness.
As anyone who goes to University is over the age of 18, it should be a legal requirement that they are fully vaccinated against MMR if they wish to live in halls of residence.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can only accept petitions which call for actions that are the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

It's the responsibility of universities to decide who can live in their halls of residence.
