Allow EU citizens with SS or ILR, to vote in the event of second referendum
Eu citizens living in the UK was excluded to vote in the 2016 referendum
We want EU citizens, who lives in the UK and has a proven right to stay either under the settled status scheme or with indefinite leave to remain, to be allowed a vote in the event of a second referendum on Brexit
British citizens living abroad where also excluded from voting in the 2016 referendum.
Mr Shindler- Strasbourg. Claim rejected as “15y is not an insubstantial period of time”
James Preston- High Court declined as he “failed to prove close connection”
SS are given to EU citizens who has a record of 5y of recidency in the UK, no criminal convictions. I ague that 5 years is a substantial time.
Taking the decision to apply for settled status shows the intention to stay and a close connection.
