On 23rd May, seek agreement on the future relationship between the UK and the EU

Petition Details

The election for UK Members of the European Parliament is likely to be held on 23rd May and offers the opportunity to break the parliamentary deadlock by canvassing the popular preference for 3 options. This ensures MEPs will either not take up their seats on 1st July or will do so with purpose.

Additional Information

On the 23rd May, voters should be offered the opportunity to express their two ranked preferences over:
• Leaving the EU on the terms already agreed between the UK Government and the EU
• Leaving the EU on the basis of the applicable tariffs and quotas covered by the World Trade Organisation rules
• Remaining a member of the EU and revoking Article 50

If a first ranked choice fails to secure more than 50% of the votes cast, the second ranked votes of the least preferred choice will be counted.
