Prohibit any elected official from passing false statements off as facts
The public rely on elected officials to govern our society responsibly. In turn, they have a responsibility to establish trust with the general public. We must be able to trust what they say in public and in open debate. Too often, our representatives are ill informed or careless with the facts.
Elected officials must be made responsible in law for the things they state as facts which are later proved to be false.
If required, we could all produce as many examples as you like of elected officials making claims or stating as fact things that the public have based decisions on and that have later been proved to be untrue. This leads to ill-informed public opinion which is not how a true democracy should function and it has gone on long enough.
