Petition Action

Give police more power to deter crime by using disproportionate force

Petition Details

As the crime rate soars in UK and anti-social behaviour takes hold. We need to take unprecedented measures for the police to regain the respect and authority.
Police must be given the correct protection in law.
Currently officers using force are protected when using reasonable force.

Additional Information

Powers should exist for police officers to use disproportionate force when defending the public and protecting the countries civil liberties. ie. Not allowing disrespectful behaviour. An extension of this power should be used for vehicles where drivers or riders are likely to cause injury to others if the behaviour continued.
A new moderate correction law should also be passed for lawful chastisement of a person who is believed to be showing disrespect to police or not supporting police officers

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because we aren't sure what you mean by disproportionate force. The police already have the power to use force if it is necessary to protect the public. It's not clear what else you would like to happen.

You could start a new petition setting out clearly the circumstances in which you would like the police to be able to use force that they are not already able to do so.
