Legal requirement Vet check for selling dogs privately .

Petition Details

We as a family have bought a pet dog off a private seller and she lied to us saying the dog was in good health. When it wasn’t and facing thousands of pounds of vets bills to make the dog right after suffering for years with a chronic condition .

Additional Information

We as a family have been ripped off by a dishonest seller and are now having to payout out thousands of pounds to put right what the previous owner failed to do by providing health care for their dog .

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because whilst we understand that you would like there to be a legal requirement for privately sold dogs to be subject to a check-up by a vet, we aren't sure who would be required to arrange this check and whether it would be before the dog was provided to the seller or before it was sold.

You could start a new petition setting out clearly who this requirement would apply to.
