Implement the Freedom of Movement (FoM) directive (2004/38/EC) more effectively
The FoM directive states that any Union citizen must have sufficient resources and sickness insurance to ensure they do not become a burden on the UK’s social services if staying longer than 3 months.
The UK can also require any Union citizen to register with the authorities as necessary.
This petition notes that “European migrants living in the UK contribute £2,300 more to public purse each year than the average adult, suggesting a net contribution of £78,000 to the exchequer over their lifespan in the UK”. OxfordEconomics Fiscal Impact Study
