Call for the criminalization of tobacco products throughout the UK!
This petition serves two purposes:
1) Compares the government's own standards for what constitutes a harmful substance with the proven dangers associated with tobacco consumption.
2) Calls into question the current misguided approach to tackling substance misuse.
Tobacco kills 95,800 people a year in the UK!
According to NHS England, each year 78,000 die, there are 484,700 hosptial admissions, around 10.8% of mothers smoke during prenancy, costing at least £2bn each year in England alone.
In Scotland, 1/5 deaths is related to smoking (10,000 people each year) and the drug costs the NHS around £300mn.
Cancer research suggests that smoking is responsible for 15% of cancer instances and around 11,000 people die each year as a result of passive smoking.
