Change the Unearned Income Universal Credit Regulations
The maximum loan available for a masters degree is £10,609. Tuition fees must be paid out of this amount, however, regardless of the actual cost of those fees, the Universal Credit regulations state that it will be 'assumed' that 30% of the loan will be left to be used for maintenance...
For example, after paying tuition fee costs of £10,000 ( this is the amount payable currently at UCLAN for a 2 year part time masters degree in law) a student would be left with £304 per year. However UC will calculate that the student has £1,591.20 left per year. Accordingly, the students entitlement would be reduced by £66.80 per month. Simply for enhancing their employment prospects.
