Ban the sale of disposable barbecues and their use in the countryside
Disposable barbecues are a major cause of devastating moorland wildfires, which damage fragile moorland habitats, release CO2, cost millions to extinguish, cause air pollution, threaten communities and decimate wildlife.
The devastating moorland wildfires of 2018 and the spring of 2019 are causing damage to our fragile blanket bog habitat, which, across the South Pennines and Dark Peak, is as close as we get to wilderness.
Blanket bog, rarer than rain forest and already under threat from climate change and our past industrial legacy, is an important escape from the busy lives led in the northern cities adjoining it.
