Petition Action

Follow India's example of banning the Islamic 'triple-talaq' instant divorce.

Petition Details

Recently the Indian government has banned the Islamic practice 'triple-talaq' instant divorce punishable by up to three years in prison. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/09/19/india-makes-islamic-triple-talaq-instant-divorce-punishable/

Additional Information

Muslim women say they have been divorced over messaging apps like WhatsApp or in letters, leaving them without any legal remedy.

We should do the same as a matter of urgency. I am a UK born and raised 2nd generation Indian Hindu and I have seen the devastation this can cause.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action. We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

You can find out how to get divorced in the UK here:

www.gov.uk/divorce

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do. For example, you could start a new petition asking for a specific change to UK divorce law.
