Educate children in secondary schools on political matters
Children in secondary schools are taught about how to behave in society, but it is increasingly important that we tackle political ignorance in the UK.
We need to broaden awareness of how our vote impacts things far beyond our interests: how taxes work; what does Parliament do; the Queen’s role.
Isn’t it alarming that, whatever your views, one of the most-cited complaints about the EU Referendum in 2016 was that “no one knew what they were voting for”?
Isn’t it alarming that, in the most decisive vote this nation has had for decades, people simply didn’t know what they were voting for?
Similarly, there is an overwhelming ignorances around taxes. We have to teach that we need taxes to pay for the NHS, the legal system, the Police, everything that makes the UK great.
This has to change.
