Change the law on the length of time DEBTORS are allowed to obtain a CCJ

Petition Details

Hello everyone I'm looking to start a petition against the amount of time a debtor can obtain a CCJ after default.
A debt stays against a person from default for 6 years on the individuals credit files, this obviously effects a number of things from obtaining a mortgage to car Insurance prices.

Additional Information

I found myself in debt with my bank when I lost my job, ended up using my overdraft to cover Bill's and this is where my problems started. This happened in 2009 yet the debt collection company legally waited until 5 years and 10 months before obtaining a CCJ. So with 2 months remaining legally before it was STATUTE Barred they obtained the ccj staying on my credit reports for a further 6 years. In total it will effect me for 12 years something which is completely wrong and needs to be stopped

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We cannot accept petitions where it is unclear what action you would like the Government to take.

You could start a petition that specifies a maximum amount of time that you would like creditors to be able to start an action, such as 12 months, as was done in this petition relating specifically to parking charges:
