Petition Action

Honour the Paris Climate Agreement when we leave the EU

Petition Details

The Paris Climate Agreement is a global step in the right direction to combat Climate Change

Countries have come together to limit the century's global average temperature increase. The UK signed this under the jurisdiction of the EU- when we leave we'll have less of an obligation to carry it out

Additional Information

Rising sea levels could make thousands of islands from the Maldives to Hawaii ‘uninhabitable within decades’.

Dream destinations that everyone hopes to visit once in their lifetime are the first places that are being affected. It seems like these islands will literally be a dream if something is not done, as soon as possible. The Paris Climate Agreement helps protect them.

Now that the UK will stand alone, it may have less sway in international climate negotiations than it did before.

Sign this petition to show the government that being involved in global climate change is still important. Just because we have left the EU doesn’t mean we have left the world or the international community and we should stand by our global commitment to the Paris Climate Agreement.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

The UK has ratified the Paris Agreement separately from EU and will continue to be bound by it after Brexit. You can find out more in this paper published by the House of Commons Library:

researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/CBP-8394/CBP-8394.pdf

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you'd like the UK Government or Parliament to do.
