Stop using household income to assess student finance applications
My daughter is currently struggling to make ends meet whilst at university, she was awarded the lowest loan all because myself and my partner’s income is above a certain threshold. She has a job and works lots of hours to try and cover the deficit, but it is impacting her studies
When our children reach the age of 18 parents are no longer entitled to child benefit as they are now classed as independent however it seems when it suits parents are then are expected to bridge the gaps on student finance based on household income. In addition to this the loans provided for a student to study in a local university and stay at home compared with a student who is living away does not make sense as the minimum loan is £3k at home and £4K to fully support themselves.
