British adults to receive doctor-assisted suicide on end of life treatment.
Adults should have the right to choose authorised-doctor-assisted suicide in Britain, protected by legal safeguards established in consultation with interested parties, including mental health professionals and disability organisations.
The legal rights to make end of life choices, such as putting a Do Not Attempt Resuscitation order in a Living Will, and to dignity already exist.
Assisted suicide is legal in 5 European countries, Canada and several states in America. It is available to British citizens who are able to travel to the Swiss clinic Dignitas and are capable of receiving, and can afford to pay for, its services. It is not currently legal in the UK.
