Create a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice

Petition Details

Government must create and be led by decisions of a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice, in which a representative random sample of everyday people make decisions informed by experts in a deliberative citizens' assembly. Decisions should lead to actions to avert climate catastrophe.

Additional Information

The UN IPCC report 2018 states we have 12 years (now 11) to take emergency action on climate change. If global temperatures rise by 1.5°C, humans will face unprecedented climate-related risks and weather events. We are currently on course for a 3°C rise, which will lead to the destruction of our environment and the death and displacement of millions of people.

Sir David Attenborough, Greta Thunberg and Extinction Rebellion have highlighted these risks to the public. It's time to act.
