climate change ~ Tax ~ UK
Display health, environmental and emission warnings at petrol and diesel sales.
40,000 people die prematurely in the UK due to air pollution, much of this is caused by road fuels. CO2 emissions from road fuels contribute to climate change, harming our planet. Consumers should be given information to make better choices and encourage them to consider less harmful transport.
Rather than trying to tax drivers away from road fuels (a tax would penalise the poor, and not discourage the well-off) this proposal seeks to fairly and clearly inform consumers each time they buy road fuel. It guides them to choose transport options that are less harmful.
