Petition Action

Make tenant liable for damage to property and unpaid rent faster eviction

Petition Details

Rented property, from July 2018 to April 2019 tenant stopped paying rent, I had to follow the process from section 8,21, to court application via bailifs the whole process took 10 months and they also trashed the property. To date I got 0 GBP back and over 15 000 GBP out of pocket !

Additional Information

The single mother was on benefits , was using her universal credit for holidays, no rent for over 10 months, trashed house. I have been left stranded to re-pay the mortgage, the court fees, the solicitor fees and I had to pay 5000 GBP to refurbish the place as well. She was advised by the council to stay put till the end she didn't even handover key. We need a rapid eviction process for people that behave in such manner and they should be held liable for the damages and unpaid rent.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. Damage to property and unpaid rent are already enforceable by the courts.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly how you would like the law to change, or explaining how evictions should be made easier, if that is what you would like to do.
