Petition Action

Limit air in packaging to stop deceiving consumers and damaging the environment

Petition Details

With packaging waste being a big cause of damage to the planet. I think it’s time we address products like crisps and sweets for excessive packaging to appear as better value for customers. Placing a limit on air volume in such products will reduce the amount being put into landfill/sea/etc.

Additional Information

The basis of this will ultimately be very costly for manufacturers, however I believe the longevity of our planet, combined with the severity of failing to take radical action, will far out way the cost. I open food products to discover there is much less than initially perceived, this deception is immediately founded and for the sake of greed does not warrant adding tonnes of extra packaging waste to the mess we have created. The mess is so large that every little help is necessary.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. In particular, we're not sure exactly how you want to the Government or Parliament to limit excess packaging.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do. For example, you could start a new petition calling for statutory limits on packaging based on the weight of the product, if that's something you'd like to happen.
