Change the term “Homophobia” to LGBTQ discrimination

Petition Details

The suffix “-phobia” implies that “homophobia”, “transphobia” and “biphobia” is a fear - something people cannot control.
People that are discriminatory towards members of the LGBTQ community are not “afraid”.
The term is outdated and takes the ownership off the perpetrator. This should change.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. The UK's main equality discrimination law, the Equality Act 2010, refers to discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation, sex and gender reassignment.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly in which Government services or organisations you would like to no longer use the term homophobia, if that is what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
