Petition Action

Change the way Benefit Cap is applied.

Petition Details

To avoid Benefit Cap, you need to work for 16 hours in most cases. Where the issue exists, is when paid Weekly, every 2 weeks, 4 weekly or on a set day per month, for example last Friday. Wage cut of days mean that you only have 4 weeks pay some months, so people get Benefit Capped

Additional Information

X is contracted to work, 2 x 8 hour shifts per week, with paid breaks.
As a single parent with 2 children and Social Housing Rent being £820.47 per month, they need to earn £569 not to be affected.
If only paid for 4 weeks, its £525.44 where as if 5, £656.80.
Over 52 weeks, they have the required £569 on average.
If people have a contract of employment for 16 or more hours a week, they should be able to sent it in, and be exempt from the Cap.
