Petition Action

Make serious changes at HMRC to the way VAT is calculated.

Petition Details

VAT is a huge issue in the UK, yet the answer is so simple. The moment a company hits £85,000.01 in turnover, they have to pay a staggering 20%. If VAT were staggered at 5, 10, 15 then 20%, more businesses would be able to pay. If more businesses were able to pay, HMRC would end up better off.

Additional Information

As of November 2018 UK businesses owed £3bn in VAT to HMRC (bmmagazine.co.uk). In 2017 HMRC issued 4,710 winding-up petitions (businessadvice.co.uk). HMRC seem more interested in winding-up their small businesses than helping them. British businesses help the local community, they provide jobs and training, they can provide travel and tourism...they could easily provide HMRC with income for the improvement of the country, or at least they could if things were made easier for them.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because we aren't sure what action you would like the UK Government or Parliament to take.

You could start a new petition setting out clearly the changes you would like to make to how VAT is set or collected.
