Petition Details

5day week at 35hrs isn't something that is beneficial in todays society changes in recent years through technology causing many job loss. By changing to a 4 day week (reduced hours at same pay) this will result to Higher productivity, Lower stress, Employee satisfaction.

Additional Information

heavy workloads, as well as work-related stress and anxiety, are costing our public services as well as private companies millions each year, with one in four of all sick days being lost as a direct result of workload pressures.shorter working weeks (and greater worker control over working time) can mean fewer sick absences, fewer in-work accidents and higher motivation on the job. Working fewer hours can be good for business too, and could relieve some strain on our public health services.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because it's about something that the UK Government and Parliament are not responsible for. This would be a decision for employers.

UK and EU law places limits on the total amount of time someone can work during a week and the minimum amount they can be paid an hour, but it doesn't specify how many or which days of the week they have to work.

You could start a new petition calling for a law placing limits on the number of days someone is allowed to work during a week if that is something you would like to see happen.
