Recover the anchor of HMT Empire Windrush ship as a national monument
The ship’s anchors symbolises migration, racial equality and shared history of belonging and citizenship. The Government must fund the recovery of the anchor as a national monument for Windrush Generation andmulticultural Britain. A legacy for national Windrush Day on the 22nd June 2023.
The ship became Crown property in 1945 and was named HMT Empire Windrush. On 22nd of June 1948 the ship arrived in Tilbury with Caribbean, Polish and Maltese passengers marking a new era of British history. In March 1954 the ship made its last voyage. It currently lies just 3000 metres below sea level off the coast of Algeria.
