Petition Action

Close all 'specialist' hospitals for people with learning disabilities/autism.

Petition Details

I'm a nurse. And I have family members and friends with autism diagnoses. The awful abuse scandals hit the headlines - Winterbourne, mid-Staffs. Never again, I said.
Yet I watched the Panorama programme on Whorlton Hall. I cannot believe that the abuse of vulnerable patients is still happening.

Additional Information

2245 LD people are in hospital, over half have been in institutions for 2 or more years.(NHS 2018)
In 2012, after the Winterbourne View abuse, the Prime Minister assurred the public that such mistreatment would not happen again.
Stephen Bubb's report led to 'Transforming Care'

In 2019, the abuses at Whorlton Hall were revealed www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m00059qb
There will be other cases.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly which hospitals you would like to be closed and what provision you would like to be made for any ongoing patients.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
