Petition Action

Stop St John’s College, Oxford, destroying English countryside with a quarry.

Petition Details

St John’s college, Oxford, worth £600 million, has agreed that Warwickshire country council can use 220 acres of land, currently prime market grower’s farmland, to quarry sand and gravel. This will destroy countryside, children’s health and wildlife.

Additional Information

The quarry will devastate 220 acres of countryside which can never be restored to its grade 1 and 2 farmland. This land contains ancient hedgerows and heritage sites. It will cause silica dust which can kill. The dust will travel directly towards a primary school and will affect the health of thousands of children and the elderly. The land will be at risk of becoming a flood plain after they have finished. This is against St John’s College’s environmental policies. Please help us save the land!

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise.

You could start a petition that requires stricter national rules for quarrying, if that's what you'd like to see happen.
