Stop BBC using licence fee payers' money for a Conservative Leadership debate

Petition Details

This contest is an internal process of direct interest only to 100.000 party members. Whilst the leader may become prime minister, and it is therefore proper that the media should report it in depth, to enable an entirely partisan process, free of non-Tory views, is an egregious use of public money.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The BBC is an independent body governed by a Royal Charter. Under the terms of that Charter, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of government and there is no provision for the government to intervene in the BBC’s day-to-day operations.

You might like to write to the BBC to make this suggestion.
