Once a year at night turn all lights out (9th September)
If all lights are turned off we will be able to see the Milky Way and other astronomical phenomena with the naked eye. This would be a truly mesmerising sight for all. Furthermore, not only will turning lights off save us all money but it also saves energy so it brilliant for the environment too.
On 9/9/19, the suggested date, Neptune will be closer to the Earth than at any other point in the year, it’s position means the sun will illuminate it and will be visible all night.
Obviously turning every single light off isn’t practical (airports, hospitals etc) but for most this would be a really simple thing to do.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for whether people turn their lights off.
You could start a new petition calling on all Government buildings to turn off their lights on that date if that is something you would like to see happen.
